• Who am I?

I am Qrystal; or at least, that's my dot-name! Har har. (My name is really Crystal, but that's not as internet-searchable; hence, switching the C for the little-used letter Q.)

I am here because I enjoy writing. I do this mostly for myself, but I also have a passion for helping others learn things from the things I write. Now that I am done my Ph.D. in Physics, I am stepping away from academic research so that I can indulge in some creative ways to share my knowledge and inspire the appreciation of scientific thinking in others. I am also working as a tutor, which is one of the jobs I've most enjoyed doing in my life so far.

  • The Creative Itch

Creativity has no bounds, certainly no right/left restrictions, its rather an approach to how to…solve an itch, whether that itch be how to express something one feels/thinks that needs to be said, how to express things better for others, or how to pay ones rent without a ‘normal’ job. Actually, that last one can bring out the most stunningly creative solutions at times.

This fascinating comment comes from Bev, in response to an article entitled, “Are You Trapped in Black-and-White Thinking?”

The article discusses an optical illusion, and references a previously-discussed optical illusion that claimed to separate out people who are left- or right-brained. Obviously, things aren’t ever as black-and-white as that, and even if there are different places in the brain responsible for various things, creativity is surely one of those things that would be difficult to pin down exactly!

Anyways, the reason this comment stood out for me is that I have been feeling the itch: I need to express stuff that needs to be said, and I’d love to be able to pay my rent without a ‘normal’ job (which I fear would only get in the way of my expressing myself!)
