• Who am I?

I am Qrystal; or at least, that's my dot-name! Har har. (My name is really Crystal, but that's not as internet-searchable; hence, switching the C for the little-used letter Q.)

I am here because I enjoy writing. I do this mostly for myself, but I also have a passion for helping others learn things from the things I write. Now that I am done my Ph.D. in Physics, I am stepping away from academic research so that I can indulge in some creative ways to share my knowledge and inspire the appreciation of scientific thinking in others. I am also working as a tutor, which is one of the jobs I've most enjoyed doing in my life so far.

    Brain Lateralization Test Results
Right Brain (66%) The right hemisphere is the visual, figurative, artistic, and intuitive side of the brain.
Left Brain (38%) The left hemisphere is the logical, articulate, assertive, and practical side of the brain

I wouldn’t have guessed that I am more right brain dominant. I had always thought I was left, partly because I understood its properties more, and partly because I was interested in academic subjects that tended to be associated with the left brain (math, science, computer programming, etc.) How interesting! I’m liking this SimilarMinds.com website.

UPDATE: I redid the test on August 30, 2010, and got the following:

    Brain Lateralization Test Results
Right Brain (52%) The right hemisphere is the visual, figurative, artistic, and intuitive side of the brain.
Left Brain (46%) The left hemisphere is the logical, articulate, assertive, and practical side of the brain

Are You Right or Left Brained?

The results also came with the following explanation:

Left brain dominant individuals are more orderly, literal, articulate, and to the point. They are good at understanding directions and anything that is explicit and logical. They can have trouble comprehending emotions and abstract concepts, they can feel lost when things are not clear, doubting anything that is not stated and proven.

Right brain dominant individuals are more visual and intuitive. They are better at summarizing multiple points, picking up on what’s not said, visualizing things, and making things up. They can lack attention to detail, directness, organization, and the ability to explain their ideas verbally, leaving them unable to communicate effectively.

Overall you appear to have fairly Equal Hemispheres.

    Yay, me!

UPDATE: I redid the test on January 4, 2011, and got the following:

    Brain Lateralization Test Results
Right Brain (50%) The right hemisphere is the visual, figurative, artistic, and intuitive side of the brain.
Left Brain (42%) The left hemisphere is the logical, articulate, assertive, and practical side of the brain

Are You Right or Left Brained?
    personality tests by similarminds.com

Overall you appear to be Right Brain Dominant.

Averaging the three results above, it says I am slightly more right-brain dominant than left-brain, but that’s probably partly due to how strongly I’ve answered the questions about being scatterbrained… some days I feel it more than others. :)
