• Who am I?

I am Qrystal; or at least, that's my dot-name! Har har. (My name is really Crystal, but that's not as internet-searchable; hence, switching the C for the little-used letter Q.)

I am here because I enjoy writing. I do this mostly for myself, but I also have a passion for helping others learn things from the things I write. Now that I am done my Ph.D. in Physics, I am stepping away from academic research so that I can indulge in some creative ways to share my knowledge and inspire the appreciation of scientific thinking in others. I am also working as a tutor, which is one of the jobs I've most enjoyed doing in my life so far.

The Church of Reality is a non-prophet organization.

I recently discovered the Church of Reality, and I am totally amazed. What a great collection of musings on what a modern, thoughtful religious notion could entail! I’m not done reading yet, but so far I haven’t found anything that didn’t send a shiver down my spine — in a good way! I’m so very impressed about the idea that whatever is real, is to be believed, instead of blindly choosing a belief and pretending it’s real!

One person I know commented that the church doesn’t believe in the Many-Worlds interpretation of Quantum Mechanics, but that doesn’t concern me — I don’t know whether that is the real way to look at things either, or if it is just a way of interpreting the fact that probabilities are the only things calculable in quantum mechanics. I haven’t felt the need to think that probabilities mean that all the options actually happen — though I wouldn’t discount it either. There is something fundamentally pleasing about a multiple-universe structure that not only requires infinite energy, but it demands it.

But I digress. I wasn’t sure what I was going to quote about this church, until I got to the very bottom of the page… and I laughed out loud. How could I not love a perspective that not has the gall to make jokes about its own non-preachiness? Non-PROPHET?! That’s HILARIOUS!
