• Who am I?

I am Qrystal; or at least, that's my dot-name! Har har. (My name is really Crystal, but that's not as internet-searchable; hence, switching the C for the little-used letter Q.)

I am here because I enjoy writing. I do this mostly for myself, but I also have a passion for helping others learn things from the things I write. Now that I am done my Ph.D. in Physics, I am stepping away from academic research so that I can indulge in some creative ways to share my knowledge and inspire the appreciation of scientific thinking in others. I am also working as a tutor, which is one of the jobs I've most enjoyed doing in my life so far.

  • Creating a Creative Style

I think any creative activity is in fact a learning process. Musical performance is included in this, by the way, because you have to create your particular style of playing. You’re always trying to develop and move forwards…

Creative cycles – By Tim J

I agree so much with what Tim says in this blog post, I just had to blog about it.

I mostly just want to say that it’s been difficult for me to “let go” and find my own style of playing some of the songs that I cover on guitar, but it’s so important to do so. Since I’ve realized this, my enjoyment of playing has gone up …hundredfold, at least, if only because that’s a cool word to be able to use in a sentence.

As for having actual “cycles” of creative activity, I can only hope that someday I figure out whether there is some periodicity to the benefits! As it stands, it seems more like the interest in each activity comes and goes as a wave… with each wave having its own frequency… or maybe the frequency itself is chaotic, depending on many other variables….

Human nature is so difficult to pin down. ;)
